How Can I Find Out About Schools And Community Resources?

By on November 11, 2013 in Home Buying Advice, Mortgage Videos

Sometimes the best part about buying a home is learning a new neighborhood. Find out the best ways to learn about upcoming events and meetings. The best way to get accustomed to new surroundings is to immerse yourself in the happenings of the neighborhood. Instead of taking a back seat and waiting for people to come to you, it is better to be proactive and seek out new friends, acquaintances and experiences. After all, there is so much that you will want to know about.

  • What is the best school?
  • Where are the best restaurants?
  • What is the best route to/from work and school?
  • Where are the best farmers’ markets?

The answers to all of these questions can be found in your community – you just have to be willing to ask the right questions.

If you want information about schools, you can contact your local city or county school board. They will give you detailed information about the elementary, middle and high schools in the area. You will know about the school district that your kids are enrolled in, and you can meet with the school principal/superintendent.

For those who want to get to know their community better, a trip to the local library is a great idea. Not only will you find a great source of books, maps and other tools at the library, but you can talk with librarians about any questions/concerns you may have. Librarians are always friendly and talkative, and chances are they will have lived in the area for quite a while.

Maps and Tours

Get a hold of a great map of the area, and set off to explore different part of the neighborhood. It is better to check out the different areas on foot, because it will give you a better idea of what is around your house. Learn how streets are laid out, where the nearest parks are, and how busy the various streets can get.

Aside from wandering around the area yourself, you can also look into any guided tours of the town/area that are available. These tours are very helpful, with guides giving out insightful tips and tricks that will help you acclimatize to your new surroundings.

Chamber of Commerce

If you want access to community resources, such as emergency numbers, information about town meetings, local clubs/community centers, and youth centers, you should visit the town’s chamber of commerce. They will be happy to give you all the information you need.
