April 2014: RealtyTrac’s Top 5 Foreclosure states
According to the most recent foreclosure reports from RealtyTrac, as a nation there were currently 1,132,523 properties that were undergoing some stage of foreclosure in April. The number of foreclosures filed during that month was 1% lower than the month of March. When compared with the same time last year it was 20% lower.
The top five states with the highest foreclosure count for the month of April are:
1) Florida = 1 in every 400
2) Maryland = 1 in every 624
3) Delaware = 1 in every 657
4) Indiana = 1 in every 681
5) New Jersey = 1 in every 700
Florida’s foreclosure filings for the month was 2% higher than the previous month and was 9% lower than the year prior. The counties with the most foreclosure filings based per housing unit are:
- De Soto = 1 in every 78
- Osceola = 1 in every 212
- Orange = 1 in every 263
- Clay = 1 in every 267
- Hernando = 1 in every 296
Maryland is number two in the list with 1 in every 624 housing units to file for foreclosure. The filings in the state of MD was 16% lower than the month of March and 5% higher than last year. Maryland’s top foreclosure counties are:
- Baltimore City = 1 in every 361
- Caroline = 1 in every 365
- Prince George’s County = 1 in every 430
- Charles = 1 in every 459
- Anne Arundel = 1 in every 468
The small state of Delaware landed on number three in this most recent report with 1 in every 657 housing units to file for foreclosure. The state’s filings was 25% higher than the month prior and 8% higher than the previous year. Within Delaware being the small state that it is, there was only 3 counties taken into account for their list of high foreclosure filings:
- Kent = 1 in every 532
- New Castle = 1 in every 617
- Sussex = 1 in every 861
The state of Indiana doesn’t pop up RealtyTrac’s foreclosure list too often, but with 1 in every 681 housing units to file for foreclosure, it made number four in the list this time around. Foreclosure filings in Indiana was reported 4% lower than the month prior and 13% higher than the same time last year. Indiana’s top foreclosure counties for the month of April are as follows:
- Scott = 1 in every 175
- Dearborn = 1 in every 210
- Montgomery = 1 in every 227
- Clinton = 1 in every 256
- De Kalb = 1 in every 259
Last but definitely not least, New Jersey made number five in this most recent foreclosure report with 1 in every 700 housing units to file for foreclosure. For the month of April, NJ’s foreclosure filings were 50% higher than just the month prior and 29% higher than the previous year.
